OZACT is a touring repertory theatre company dedicated to making
the plays of William Shakespeare accessible and entertaining to
contemporary Australian audiences.
The company combines the Australian love of the outdoors, with
the timeless stories and fine poetry of the world's greatest playwright.
OZACT was founded in 1995 by actor / director, Bruce Widdop. THE
TEMPEST at Loch Ard Gorge marked the commencement of a line of
impressive outdoor productions. The company has since gained a
reputation as "Australia's leading environmental Shakespeare company",
producing some of the best outdoor Shakespeare in some of the
country's most spectacular locations.
Over the last 13 years, thousands of people have made their way
to witness OZACT's landmark performances of Shakespeare in the
Great Outdoors. The company's iconic productions include: THE
TEMPEST at Loch Ard Gorge; KING LEAR and MACBETH in the Grampians;
PERICLES Flagstaff Hill Maritime Village; MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING
at The Mansion at Werribee Park; A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM, underground
at the World Heritage Naracoorte Caves SA; ROMEO & JULIET
at Struan House in Naracoorte SA; AS YOU LIKE IT at Coolart Homestead
on the Mornington Peninsula and TWELFTH NIGHT in the Geelong Botanic
Gardens.
The presentation of Shakespeare in magical natural settings with
a rich assortment of evocative music, stunning costumes and exciting
acting, is an OZACT trademark, and audiences eagerly anticipate
each new adventure.
